Northwestern Mutual launched Northwestern Mutual Family Office Services, a platform bringing integrated family office services to advisors serving clients with at least $50 million in net worth.
The offering comprises a team of more than 40 in-house specialists providing legal, tax, investment, banking and lending, philanthropy, legacy planning, risk management, and founder and business planning services, with advisors paying a retainer fee for access.
The firm, which has about $450 billion in retail client assets, aims to deliver more coordinated advice to ultra-high-net-worth clients such as business owners, multi-generational families, and philanthropic entities.
Northwestern Mutual already offered some of these services, such as estate and philanthropic planning, but decided last year to push further into the family office space by hiring experts and building a centralized pool that advisors can use as an extension of their teams.
The firm has about 22,000 advisors and associate wealth management advisors, of whom about 500 are in its private client group focused on higher-net-worth investors.
Chief Field Officer John Roberts said the capability gives the firm an opportunity to win full relationships with thousands of HNW households, some of which currently hold only insurance with Northwestern Mutual.
The launch follows family office division announcements this year from firms including Wealthspire, Summit Wealth Group, AlphaCore, Farther, and Americana Partners.
Knote: I like seeing this. I would like it more if they could take the bar down to $10M, which technology can do for them (note that Edward Jones did).
